Homelab february 2026

When I started this blog I had an idea of writing about my homelabbing journey, 6 years later I still haven’t done that. A lot of things happened last year and as a result I did not post anything at all. I didn’t tinker almost anything with my servers or computers for several reasons.

Self host

I started hosting my own services around 2019 I think. At the time I had everything on a VPS. In late 2022 I bought my first server to start my homelab at home on my own hardware. It was kind of a stupid buy to be honest. I did build my own server out of consumer hardware and it was not the cheapest option. On that server I installed Proxmox and installed TrueNAS in a VM and ran a couple of other VMs for other stuff.

After a while I wanted to run TrueNAS on bare metal so in the summer 2023 I bought my next server, a HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen10 which I installed TrueNAS on and that server is still up and running. Since then I’ve acquired some more hardware.

In 2026

Now, in 2026 my homelab looks like this:

• My router is an old computer I had laying around. I bought a X540-T2 10G NIC for some better networking
• A Proxmox node is running on a Minisforum UM760 Pro I bought in 2023. That mini PC is running all my VMs and containers
• The ML110 is still running as my NAS, which I’m on my way to switch out for a UGreen NASync DXP4800 Plus with 32 GB RAM and TrueNAS installed on it. I bought the UGreen NAS 6 months ago but it’s still not in use. I’ve been procastinate it for too long now
• A RPi running Pi-Hole
• A couple of switches

What I’m hosting

• UniFi controller
  I have a UniFi switch and a UniFi AP so I’m hosting a UniFi controller as a container in Proxmox.

• Linkwarden
  A bookmark/read it later manager. Linkwarden replaced Wallabag which I’ve a post about. Running as a VM in Proxmox.

• Home Assistant
  For my smart home stuff. It’s not that much yet. Running as a VM in Proxmox.

• Gotify
  Receive notifications for stuff in the homelab. Running in a Docker container in Proxmox.

• Miniflux
  A RSS feed aggregator. Running in a Docker container in Proxmox. I’ve a post about installing Miniflux. I’ll post a new one for installing with Docker one day. Running in a Docker container in Proxmox.

• May
  Track fill ups, costs and other stuff related to my car. Running in a Docker container in Proxmox.

• Vaultwarden
  Selfhosted version of Bitwarden password manager. Running in a Docker container in Proxmox.

• Maloja
  Self hosted music scrobbler, like LastFM. Running in a Docker container in Proxmox.

• IT Tools
  Some handy tools. Running in a Docker container in Proxmox.

• Wireguard
  VPN to be able to always use the benefits of my home network and access all my services wherever I am, like ad block and stuff like that. Running in OPNSense.

• Redlib
  Reddit front end. Running on a VPS.

• SearxNG
  A meta search engine. Running on a VPS.

• Snikket
  XMPP server. Running on a VPS.

• Nextcloud
  I guess most people know Nextcloud. I mostly use it to sync my mobile phone photos, contacts and calendar. Running on a storage box in Hetzner.

• Pi-Hole
  Ad-blocking and DNS for my network. Running on a Raspberry Pi.

• Syncthing
  Syncthing is used to sync files between devices. Currently running on my TrueNAS system.

• Traefik
  My reverse proxy.

I have some more stuff running but that’s not in use at the moment. I also probably forgot some things.
